Ultimate London Packing List

Melissa's London Packing List (for April):

My packing list for a trip to London includes several key items to ensure comfort and practicality during my travels. Links provided here are only the things that we use and recommend.  Some of them are affiliate links and if you use the link to make a purchase, we receive a small commission (at no extra cost to you) in order to provide you this and other great travel resources.

I packed everything into a US approved size carry on and carried this backpack with my laptop and other essentials for the plane.  I also use this crossbody that would fit into the backpack so I would only have 2 bags to deal with.  To keep my packing organized I love these packing cubes. I use the padded one in my carry on to keep my headphones, kindle, remote charger, and anything else I want close at hand on the plane.

Here's what I took and recommend:

  1. Layers: As the weather in London can be quite changeable, it's important to bring layers that can be easily added or removed depending on the temperature. Pack a mix of t-shirts, long-sleeved shirts, and a sweater or light jacket. On our last trip (April, here’s what I brought along)
    • Dressier black leggings
    • 2 pairs of jeans (Madewell & American Eagle are my current favorites)
    • 1 casual black leggings
    • 1 black travel pants
    • Black tee shirt
    • neutral/creme tee shirt
    • 3 sweaters in varying weights
    • Blazer that could be dressed up or down
    • Button up denim shirt
    • denim jacket
    • scarf
    • gloves
    • ski cap
  1. Rain jacket: London is known for its rainy weather, so a lightweight rain jacket is a must-have item. Look for one that is both water-resistant and breathable.
  2. Comfortable shoes: Given the amount of walking that is involved in exploring London, it's essential to bring comfortable shoes (almost everyone wears tennis shoes with everything). Choose a pair that provides good support and cushioning and will be ok if they get wet. On our last trip (April) I brought.
  3. Umbrella - Although many hotels in London provide umbrellas for guests, it's always a good idea to bring your own, especially if you plan on spending a lot of time outdoors.
  4. Small backpack / cross body: A small backpack or cross body bag is ideal for carrying essentials like a camera, wallet, and phone. Choose one that is comfortable to wear and has multiple compartments for easy organization. I would bring along a package shopper bag too as they charge for them in the EU and EK.
  5. Camera: London is a city with a rich history and plenty of photo opportunities. Make sure to bring a camera to capture all of the amazing sights and experiences.
  6. Portable Charger - using the GPS constantly and taking pictures can drain your battery and you’ll need it to tap into the tube and get back to your hotel, plus you don’t want to miss out on any pictures.
  7. Underwear and Socks
  8. Toiletries and Supplements
  9. Chargers and a Power Converter Strip  We like this one.  The Marriott Marble Arch had USB ports which are amazing but you’ll still need the converter for laptops, etc.
